Located in the heart of Hermosa Beach, our practice serves as a hub of expertise, offering comprehensive services to address a wide range of retinal and macular conditions. However, we understand that our patients’ needs extend beyond city limits. That’s why we’re proud to extend our services to the vibrant communities of Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach.
At Beach Cities Retina We Treat
- Retinal Tear and Detachment – A retinal tear happens when the retina—a thin, light-sensitive layer at the back of your eye—develops a small rip or hole. If it’s not caught early, it can progress to something more serious: retinal detachment, where the retina pulls away from its normal position. This can lead to significant vision loss. That’s why it’s so important to catch and treat a retinal tear quickly to avoid bigger problems down the line.
- Macular Degeneration – Macular degeneration, or age-related macular degeneration (AMD), is one of the main culprits behind vision loss in older people. It targets the macula, which is the part of the retina that lets you see fine details—like reading text or recognizing faces. When AMD sets in, it can make your vision blurry, make reading tougher, and over time, you might lose your central vision entirely. Early intervention is key to slowing its progression.
- Diabetic Retinopathy – Diabetic retinopathy is a condition that can affect people with diabetes, and it hits the blood vessels in your retina. When blood sugar levels stay high for too long, these tiny vessels can get damaged—they might swell up, leak fluid, or close off entirely. This can mess with your vision and even lead to blindness if not managed. Keeping up with regular eye exams is critical for catching this early and preventing serious damage.
- Retinal Vein Occlusion – Retinal vein occlusion happens when one of the veins responsible for draining blood from the retina becomes blocked. When that happens, fluid builds up and causes swelling, which can blur your vision or, in some cases, cause sudden vision loss. The sooner it’s treated, the better your chances of restoring your sight and avoiding further issues.
- Macular Pucker and Hole – A macular pucker is when a layer of scar tissue forms on the macula, which can warp or blur your vision. A macular hole, on the other hand, is a small tear or break in the macula that can cause a more sudden and noticeable loss of central vision. Both of these issues can often be corrected with surgery, which can bring your sight back to normal or at least improve it significantly.
- Flashes and Floaters – You might occasionally notice quick flashes of light or little specks and shapes floating around in your vision—these are called flashes and floaters. Most of the time, they’re harmless and part of getting older. But sometimes, they can be a sign of something more serious, like a retinal tear or detachment. If you start seeing them suddenly or more frequently, it’s a good idea to get your eyes checked to make sure everything’s okay.
We use the latest imaging technology available to most accurately capture the health of your retina and monitor its progress throughout your treatment.
Beach Cities Retina is a retina-only practice serving patients in the South Bay and the surrounding communities.
